Word on the Street
Word on the Street – Toronto, is a little over a week away. It will be the first time that I will stand behind a booth instead of in front of it.
Over the past month or so, I’ve been hustling. Initially, it was difficult to come up with a unique concept for a great table display. Then it was a challenge trying to find all the little pieces to put that display together. I’ve got boxes of books stashed all over my tiny apartment, and I’m swimming in business cards. There are only a few small items left to get on my list, which gets a big sigh of relief from me.
I can’t wait to do a test set up of my booth to get a feel for the big picture!
Despite this bubbling excitement, there are great big butterflies crashing into each other inside my belly. I find myself worrying about what the weather will be like (the festival is outdoors), if I’ve bought enough books, and of course many other nit-picky things that will eventually drive me mad.
Which is why, over the course of the day, I force myself to stop and think. One year ago I never imagined that I would have the opportunity to stand behind a booth and answer questions about my book. To see a reader’s lovely face, and share a moment or two with them outside of social media and a computer screen. Thinking about these things is a surefire way to get me excited again.
If you find yourself in the Toronto area on Sunday, September 21st, I hope you’ll consider heading down to Queen’s Park Circle. There will be many authors, illustrators, publishers, direct publishers, indie authors, editors, magazines, cover artists, to discover! There’s something for everyone, and I know you won’t be disappointed.
If you’re around, please make sure to stop by! I’ll be the girl at booth 160 with the great big grin on her face.
Date: September 21
Time: 11:00am – 6:00pm
